SOLAR SUCCESS IN THE CAPITAL THANKS TO ELCO

ELCO has recently supplied over 60m2 of AURON® DF evacuated tube solar collectors and 14 twin coil AQUAPRIMO® cylinders to the new JW3 Jewish Community Centre London and adjoining residential accommodation.

The main centre building houses a nursery, screening room, restaurant, bar and community spaces, with the 10-storey residential block comprising 14 two-bedroom luxury apartments.

The installation of the new solar collectors is set to significantly reduce both buildings’ utility costs. With a solar fraction of 50%, the apartment block will displace 5,371 kg CO2 and 8,061 kWh of electricity, while the main community building will save 816 cubic metres of gas and 1,725 kg CO2, with a solar fraction of 35%.

Solar specialists for the project were Natural Power (UK) Ltd. Commenting on ELCO (formerly MHS Boilers), the company’s Technical Director, Lloyd Reed, said: “The evacuated tubes from ELCO (formerly MHS Boilers) were very easy to install, and thanks to their clever design, can be oriented to provide the optimum angle to the sun. And, having used the units on several projects before, we knew we could rely on them for excellent performance levels and reliability.”

AURON® DF direct flow vacuum tube solar collectors have been developed for both domestic hot water and heating support and have an extremely flexible and stable mounting system to make installation and alignment towards the sun simple.
