A CONGREGATION OF THISIONS: ELCO AT HISTORIC GRADE II LISTED ABBEY

Visitors to Erdington Abbey Church, Birmingham are benefitting from ultra-efficient heating thanks to the installation of three 65kW Thision L boilers from ELCO (formerly MHS Boilers). Installed on a free-standing cascade frame with a low loss header and Pisces pressurisation unit, the Thision L boilers have replaced three aging units as part of the complete refurbishment of the heating system.

M&E consultants and contractors for the refurbishment were Sutton Coldfield-based Farrelly (M&E) Building Services Ltd. Commenting on the project, Director John Farrelly, said: “We needed boilers that had excellent efficiencies and powerful outputs, yet small enough to fit into the restricted floor space of a plant room in a Grade II listed building. The boilers and free standing cascade system from ELCO (formerly MHS Boilers) fitted these requirements perfectly, and combined with good availability as well as excellent service, the installation has been a great success.”

Commenting on the improvements to the heating system, Reverend Gabriel Maguire said: “We’ve really noticed the difference this year with the church warming up in less than half the time than before the refurbishment. The new boilers are easily controllable, extremely efficient and, above all, far more economical to run. The combination of these three elements is great news for the parish and our visitors alike.”
